Divine Humanity
Acrylic on stretched canvas. 16”x16” Prints on stretched canvas available
Divine Humanity is a rich visual prayer that draws from ancient Mesoamerican myth to explore the sacred duality of being human—the dance between earth and spirit, matter and light, death and renewal.
At the heart of the painting rises Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered Serpent deity revered by the Toltec, Aztec, and Mayan peoples. This powerful figure embodies the union of opposites: feathers reaching skyward evoke our divine nature—our capacity for wisdom, compassion, and transcendence—while the serpent coils through the earth, grounding us in the body, the instinctual, and the cycles of life.
Beneath the surface lies a vision of the “fertile underworld”—a layered cross-section of soil where decay becomes nourishment, seeds awaken, and roots stretch into the unseen. Life, death, and rebirth unfold together in a sacred rhythm. Emerging plants in various stages of bloom speak to the soul’s unfolding—messengers of transformation and hope.
Spiral and circular forms guide the eye, echoing the eternal cycles of existence. The movement between earth and sky reflects our own inner journey: to embrace both our humanity and our divinity, to walk with reverence in both realms.
Divine Humanity invites reflection on how we integrate our inner worlds—how we find wholeness by honoring the darkness as much as the light. It is a celebration of regeneration, reminding us that even in times of loss or uncertainty, life is always becoming.
